Grading Policy and Assignments
This year, we will be completing different assignments on different platforms, such as in class work, tests and quizzes, i-ready, and class participation to name a few. I wanted to take this time to explain how I grade assignments so that there is no confusion when grades are submitted for each assignment.
I-Ready:
Students will complete 3 i-ready assignments each week, unless otherwise noted. These assignments will be averaged out and added to the grade book as a quiz grade. Each student can have as many tries as they would like on these assignments because I will only be counting the best 3 scores they receive. The window to complete this each week is Monday to Friday at midnight. Students will have time in class as well as home to complete these assignments.
Exit Ticket and classwork:
Exit tickets are completed at the end of the lesson for the students to put their new skills to the test. The grades will be given out based on a combination of completion and correctness, so for example if a student shows their work but gets the question wrong, they can still receive points to help their grade. The same policy will apply to classwork assignments.
Class participation:
Each week there will be a class participation grade given. Each student starts the week with a 100 as their grade. Students cannot gain points for this assignment; they can only lose them. I will deduct 5 points for not completing classwork, disrupting the class, breaking class rules, etc. This deduction will happen each time one of the events occur. For example, if for the week a student does not complete the work and disrupts the class on each of the 5 days, the student will receive a 50 for class participation.
Tests/Quizzes:
Tests or quizzes will be graded as a normal assignment, total percentage correct. Throughout the year, for some tests or quizzes there will be the opportunity to earn some extra points.
